Itinerary

  1. 08:00 – Boat departure from Panajachel heading to Santiago Atitlán (~35 min). The guide introduces the history of the largest village on the lake.
  2. 08:40 – Santiago market. Guided tour of the local market: exotic fruits, textiles, medicinal herbs.
  3. 09:40 – Santiago Apóstol Church. Colonial architecture with Mayan syncretism. Story of Father Stanley Rother.
  4. 10:30 – Visit to Maximón (Rilaj Maam). Syncretic Maya-Catholic deity. The guide explains the cultural significance and offerings.
  5. 11:10 – Artisan workshops. Visit to families who carve wood, weave and embroider. The creation process of traditional garments.
  6. 12:15 – Traditional lunch. Local restaurant with Tz'utujil dishes: free-range chicken broth, handmade tortillas, atol.
  7. 13:30 – Return by boat to Panajachel. Time for photos of the lake from the stern.
